Airpol Engineering - Dust and Fume Control engineers. Manufactures of reverse jet and reverse air flow filters, cyclones, fans and associated equipment. LEV readings undertaken and advice on exsisting equipment

Ask your self this question – does the LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) system that I am responsible for (which includes dust, fume, vehicle exhaust and welding fume extraction systems) meet the requirements of Regulation 9 of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health 1999 Act?

This regulation states that ‘every employer who provides any control measure to prevent exposure of an employee to a substance hazardous to health shall ensure that it is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair. In addition, where engineering controls are provided, the employer shall ensure that thorough examinations and tests are carried out and a suitable record of these be kept and made available for at least 5 years’.

In the case of local exhaust ventilation plant (LEV) the examinations and tests must be performed at least every 14 months (In certain circumstances this period is reduced to every 6 months. E.g. where metal dust is being controlled).

We know that the amount of ‘red tape’ that a company is required to take on board increases year on year, and it is sometimes difficult to keep up-to-date with the latest requirements.

This is where APE can help – we take the responsibility of undertaking the necessary tests and inspections, and providing a detailed report in accordance with statutory requirements.

We will also give advice on work required to bring the system back to its original intended performance, together with an estimate of any major modifications that may be required to achieve this.
