Airpol Engineering - Dust and Fume Control engineers. Manufactures of reverse jet and reverse air flow filters, cyclones, fans and associated equipment. LEV readings undertaken and advice on exsisting equipment

EnerSys is one of the largest industrial battery manufacturers in the world, operating 20 manufacturing and assembly facilities worldwide with customers in over 100 countries. Worldwide and Americas headquarters are located in Reading, Pennsylvania, USA with regional headquarters in Europe and Asia.

Operations at the Newport, South Wales site included granulating and cutting of lead sheet, mixing of lead oxides and additives, and robot stackers for handling the battery plates, all causing lead dust to be emitted into the working environment.

Airpol carried outan exhaustive survey prior to submitting a quotation to ensure that the air volumes for each machine would give the maximum of extraction efficiency with the minimum volume utilised, resulting in a total air volume for the system of 51,000 m3/hr. This include a marginal allowance of 5,440 m3/hr. for future machines.

Airpol offered one of their Type 220/1200 Cartridge Reverse Jet Filters which incorporates pleated cartridge filters. The cartridges were given a treatment of FHM 1500M pre-coat which abated clean gas emissions to les than 1.0 mg/m3.

The filter discharged collected dust via a centrally out loading screw conveyor fitted to the filter hopper, and a DV250 fixed vane rotary valve, into a two way diverter and bagging station to collect the dust in plastic bags for subsequent disposal.

A Backward Laminar Centrifugal Fan, vee belt driven by a 90 kW motor, was positioned on the clean side of the filter.

The fan discharged into a 1000 mm x 14.8 metre free standing stack complete with test ports for dust emission testing and access ladder and platform.

All hoods, ducting and control panel were supplied as part of the extraction package, and the system met all expected emission levels.
